Health, Safety and Environment Manager

Location: Field based – Nationwide

Purpose of Role:

To lead the company in regards to Health, Safety and Environmental standards, as required by Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Using expert knowledge and influencing skills to develop and implement strategic improvement measures to direct the Health and Safety agenda.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Drive a safety-first culture across the business. Demonstrate quality leadership by creating department strategy, setting high standards and inspiring change within the team through coaching on all matters relating to health, safety and sustainable practice. Utilise an appropriate communication platform to launch initiatives and messaging to ensure engagement and understanding, to both internal and external resource.

  • Assess the core risks throughout the business. Define safe operational procedures and implement control measures to eliminate or reduce identified risk. Input and contribute to technical/operational practice of health, safety and environmental activities.

  • Work alongside Project Management Team and Design Team to advise on CDM 2015 and Health and Safety considerations, and ensure thorough and effective inspections are completed (on site and within the office environment) to identify and mitigate risk. Audit compliance to policy and procedure and to highlight good practice. Ensure accurate records of inspections are retained with measurable improvement plans in place where necessary.

  • Use data, research, benchmarking and insight to present monthly update to Board of Directors. Prepare health, safety and sustainable practice strategies for presentation to Senior Stakeholders in line with legislation and HSE advice to continually improve delivery, and develop internal policy for launch with the wider business.

  • Develop waste management policies, and educate and drive sustainable operations across the business. Conduct environmental audits to ensure adherence to environmental standards.

  • Maintain documentation and systems of health, safety and environmental data and performance. Escalate urgent issues to Senior Leadership Team and work to deliver an appropriate solution.

  • Bring to the attention of the Senior Leadership Team any changes to regulations and legislation, and ensure that these are reflected in working practices and procedures. Liaise regularly with wider team and providing coaching and support ensure adherence, understanding and engagement.

  • Work with New Business to support with the tendering process and New Business Customer Journey. Provide data, supporting information and evidence to demonstrate capability, performance and innovation within health, safety and environment remit.

  • Work with HR to ensure employee training and qualifications remain valid and relevant to task. Advise on initiative to improve performance and deliver training in-house where applicable. Control H&S annual training budget and advise on issues within relevant employment law guidelines.

  • Ensure the safe and successful onboarding of new employees, suppliers and contractors. Ensure compliance in regards to qualifications, data and certification/accreditations and ensure engagement with the Resolution Interiors Health and Safety culture.

  • Follow and comply with all policies and procedures of Resolution Interiors which includes the Health and Safety procedures, ensuring personal safety and the safeguarding of the interests and safety of all staff, visitors, and contractors.
