We’ve been realising stores for Midcounties Co-operative since 2014, but it’s always a delight to be asked to deliver their next project – especially when it’s a new concept, eco-friendly store that champions over 130 local artisan suppliers.
The 10,000sqft state of the art store in Botley, Oxfordshire opened its doors in Westway Square after trading temporarily for the past two years while the site was redeveloped, providing their local community with over 710 products from 130 different local suppliers including Tap Social Movement which is a social enterprise employing people who have been through the criminal justice system.
As well as heavily promoting local and cutting food miles, the store boasts proud eco-credentials. To support the reduction of single-use plastics RI designed a free water dispenser unit where customers can refill their own bottles, and installed state-of-the-art energy efficient refrigerators.
The store boasts a team of in-house experts on hand to help customers design the perfect menu for any occasion, including cheese & wine experts.
Working very closely with the main developer of the site, all while navigating COVID-19, RI completed this new supermarket from design through to realisation. This included working with COOP direct suppliers to install Eco efficient HVAC system, new Eco refrigeration cases, CCTV & alarm systems and back of house services. RI carried out all internal partitioning, floorings, ceilings including RI designed feature rafts, complete with shelving system and feature fixturing and management of end to end supply chain.
Features include an in-store bakery, stunning deli counter, market-style fresh foods, backlit beers, wines & spirits, a Post Office, Costa Coffee, self-service check outs, and an impressive panoramic glazed shopfront.
