Client: Graham & Brown, Kings Road

Duration: Design, planning, pre-construction, joinery and installation, 8 months

The Brief

Graham & Brown appointed RI, alongside Field Design Management, to design and deliver their first standalone London showroom in a prominent King’s Road location. The ambition was to create a flagship space that would showcase their paint, wallpaper and fabric collections in an inspiring, design-led way—moving beyond traditional retail into a setting that actively supports customers in creating their own interior schemes. Despite the compact footprint, the showroom needed to operate as both a welcoming customer environment and a design consultation hub for homeowners and professional designers. It was essential that products could be experienced at true scale, with accurate colour representation, while maintaining flexibility to accommodate evolving collections and future launches. The project also needed to open in time for London Design Week 2025, requiring a carefully coordinated programme and an agile approach to design and delivery.

The Project

We delivered the showroom through a truely collaborative design and build approach, transforming a compact retail unit into an experiential design studio. At ground level, a bright, welcoming entrance introduces a flexible consultation area, centred around a bespoke table that can split into multiple stations to support peak and event usage. Full-drop wallpaper displays, sliding fabric hangers and integrated sample storage allow customers to explore and compare materials intuitively. The basement level—previously limited by a lack of natural light—was reimagined as a primary consultation hub. A high-CRI artificial skylight was introduced to replicate daylight conditions, ensuring colour accuracy for scheme development and transforming the space into a warm, usable studio environment. A defining feature of the showroom is the bespoke vertical “moodboard” system: large-scale sliding boards that allow customers to build and compare schemes at full height. This innovation enables finishes to be viewed as they would appear in the home, creating a more immersive and confident decision-making process. Complementary features, including angled paint displays and adaptable wallpaper installations, further support true-to-life product interaction.
