The Newt
Client: The Newt in Somerset
Duration: Design to build, 18 months
The Brief
With a very clear vision from South African businessman Koos Bekker in 2013, we were commissioned to work on the design and fit out of both the gift and farm shops at Grade II listed building, The Newt. He wanted the shops to be reflective of the farmhouse feel, with a contemporary design edge, using only the best quality materials, timber, glass, stainless steel, and brass.
The Project
We created a bespoke, luxury design, with a focus on local craftmanship. Every part of both retail environments was carefully crafted as individual pieces, rather than using more commonplace modular systems. We installed a salt room, butchers counter, cheese maturation room, and a misting system for fresh produce and hand cut flowers.

The Newt looks to the past for inspiration, taking its cue from the Company’s Garden of Cape Town.
A slice of good life
The Newt team of farmers, gardeners, butchers, bakers, cheesemakers, chefs and cyder makers work in harmony with land and livestock to produce delicious food on display in the farm shop.

We have since assisted with the building of a bespoke mushroom room and a state-of-the-art Gelateria.
