The Sherborne – Gift Shop
Client: Sherbone, Dorset
Duration: 24 Months
The Brief
The project began when we were recommended to The Sherborne team by their brand agency. They were looking for a design partner with expertise in the retail sector to help create the scheme for a gift and homeware shop. The brief was to design a functional yet beautiful retail environment that would also support the local arts community, reflecting the founder Michael Cannon’s personal connection to the arts and his vision for, The Sherborne.
The Project
It all started with conceptual idea development, material sampling, and sketching by our sister design team, Field. We worked closely with The Sherborne’s architects and main construction teams to harmonise our designs with the renovation of the house and arts space. As we progressed, we encountered challenges with the structural limitations of this Grade 1 listed building, which required us to adapt our designs accordingly. Balancing the historical integrity of the building with modern functionality was key, and we made sure to protect the building’s finishes while installing new fixtures in the shop.
Throughout the project our operations team at Resolution Interiors and our design team at, Field Design, focused on blending creative design with practical execution. This meant ensuring all design elements were feasible and met safety and structural requirements. Our collaboration aimed to deliver a retail space that extends the customer experience and community engagement within this Dorset hub for the arts.
The functionality and requirements needed within the retail space are a hugely important aspect of displaying the products, and it has a lovely wow factor, marrying the old and the new. Its bright and vibrant. I think it works really well.

The personal touch..
Michael, the project's founder, was actively involved and brought a personal touch to the project. He had specific ideas, like using his antique table for visual merchandising for example.
